(I wrote this while offline yesterday…)
Today’s rune is Ingwaz.
The energy of this rune has affinity with the Third Fourth (heart) Chakra.
Today I have the energy, focus, will, and inspiration to bring recent endeavors to a successful conclusion.
It’s fitting this rune should come on the last day of the year.
Typically I don’t believe in what some call “omens” or fate. These related concepts are rendered impotent by free will and the ripples of cause and effect it creates.
That said, I feel strongly that drawing this rune on the last day of the year bodes well for 2008. May it be the same for you and those you love, in accordance with the free will of all.
More on Ingwaz can be found here and here.

Hi there, I’ve received very positive messages about 2008 as well
Hey, isn’t the heart chakra the 4th?
Some thoughts on “fate” or “destiny.” A couple of years ago I had a wicked experience at a certain job that seemed to spur a full year of exceedingly “challenging” (okay, very hellish times…didn’t think I was going to survive it) experiences. A few days before it all started, I felt morbidly depressed, and I didn’t know why. I decided to paint what I was feeling. A strange picture came from it. And my pics always tell me what they wish to be called, this one said its name was, “Fate.” And then a few days later, all this terrible stuff started…
Now, I don’t think we should ever allow a message to provoke ongoing fear in us. That’s dangerous. And I didn’t allow that “fate” message to do so, I just took it as a more positive “destiny” message. But my body knew, the depression reflected what was coming. It was not a positive experience, although I like to think the outcome was a stronger me, hence, ultimately positive. And it was all followed by an amazing miracle, blessings, and some much better times…
The way I think about “fate” or “destiny” is the way I look at everything. Ya’ can’t have one thing without the other, one defines the other. Love would not be if it were not for hate — how would you define love without hate? What would “hot” be without cold? So if we create it all, then we also don’t
That is, I believe there are SOME things that are destined to be. BUT, as a general rule, I very much believe we create it all, and that should be our primary focus. Just as love should be our primary focus, and that all happens for our highest good
Peace,
Dove
Oops…thanks for catching the chakra typo. That’s what I get for writing while sipping on a glass of red wine!
You bring up some very interesting points about fate and destiny that could form the basis for a very interesting conversion. Thinking more on it, I agree there are some things which are “meant to be,” and others that we ourselves create with choice.
I used to believe that everything happens for a reason, and *everything* I experienced was “meant to be.” Then I realized I was using these as excuses for not co-creating my reality with my Higher Power (I was expecting everything I wanted and needed to be “brought” to me, rather than taking responsibility for creating it). Since having that realization, I guess I’m much more careful about how I view fate/destiny. It’s interesting to observe as well how pervasive my old belief seems to be in society at large. Collectively we seem to have a very difficult time taking responsibility for our own actions – many seem content reacting to their environment instead of affecting it.
Great contribution – thanks dovelove!
[...] Are you ready for a relationship that’s mutually beneficial in all ways? One in which you love passionately and are passionately loved in return? One in which you teach and are taught, give joy and receive it, nurture and are nurtured? Plant Inguz! [...]
Inguz symbolizes the moon, relationships, and harmony. us to use intuition.

Hi Urania,
Thanks for visiting.
It’s sometimes difficult to make the diverse and many-layered energies illustrated by the runes fit into a single tidy package (e.g. “rune so-and-so ONLY means such-and-such).
That said, I agree that the energy of Inguz is symbolic of relationships (in my experience, specifically the sexual aspects of relationships), and perhaps harmony to an extent.
I disagree that Inguz is symbolic of the moon however, as the energy of the rune Laguz specifically correlates to and is symbolic of the moon and all that it influences (emotion, intuition, feminine cycles, the depths of the unconscious, etc.).
What are your thoughts?
Very interesting topic!
I feel like Ingwaz corresponds to The World card in Tarot. The endings and beginnings of life cycles, fulfillment of desires, material and emotional happiness, and completion. I’ve seen different sites that have linked Ingwaz with the moon. I see the connection in that both deal with cycles, timing, and emotions. I did a past/present/future rune reading today and received Nauthiz, Wunjo, and Ingwaz. That left me mighty happy and hopeful for the future even if things seem somewhat bleak at this present moment.
A side note about fate/destiny: I think they do exist in life. Life and death are two things in life that are inevitable fates. No amount of free will can change the fact that things will be born and things will die in a lifetime. That is true destiny to me. Maybe an overly-simplistic example to some but it makes sense to me. I see our earthly journeys as having several milestones or events that occur in our lives that are impossible to avoid (fate) yet we can choose unlimited pathways and roads to reach them (free will). However, I also believe that some fates can be avoided with the right choices.
Jerome, I completely resonate with your statement above about how you felt as though you were using fate as an excuse not to co-create as much as you should have. I needed to read that statement as I find myself now, over a year into my spiritual awakening, re-examining how well I am co-creating and manifesting my desires. I’ve hit a roadblock in my development (hence receiving Nauthiz in my reading!) and have just realized that I’ve sort of been allowing myself to rely on fate to guide me through rather than being active in creating MY OWN destiny. I still wholeheartedly believe that everything happens for a reason but I’m also having to admit to myself that it’s extremely important to recognize free will in your choices and take action rather than sitting back and leaving things “to chance”, which can be dangerous. I’ve just been putting too much faith in thinking that things I need will come to me with little effort on my part rather than co-creating with Divine Source equally!
So I thank you for this wonderful post on Ingwaz and your insight on fate and destiny. The Universe lead me to exactly what I needed to read!
Peace & Blessings!,
